Former Detroit Nurse Charged in Multiple Sexual Assault Cases at Sinai-Grace Hospital

Wilfredo Figueroa-Berrios, a former nurse at Detroit's Sinai-Grace Hospital, has been charged with multiple counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving assaults on female patients and others. The most recent charge involves the alleged sexual assault of a 31-year-old woman on August 12, 2025, at Sinai-Grace Hospital, where he worked. He has also been charged with assaults in May 2025 and another incident in August involving a 41-year-old woman in a public porta-potty. Figueroa-Berrios was arraigned on these charges, received a $100,000 bond with GPS monitoring and a curfew, and has court hearings scheduled for October 2025. A civil lawsuit has been filed against Figueroa-Berrios and Sinai-Grace Hospital, alleging failure to protect patients from his assaults and seeking $100 million in damages. The hospital has stated it prioritizes patient safety and has terminated Figueroa-Berrios, asserting that their hiring processes did not indicate concerns prior to his employment.
