Tulip Siddiq, the British minister in charge of financial services and anti-corruption, resigned amid scrutiny over her financial ties to her aunt, Sheikh Hasina, the ousted prime minister of Bangladesh. Despite Prime Minister Keir Starmer's previous support and an investigation clearing her of breaching the ministerial code, Siddiq stated her position had become a distraction for the government. This marks the second ministerial resignation in two months, further impacting Starmer's declining approval ratings. Siddiq was implicated in an investigation regarding alleged corruption linked to her family in Bangladesh, specifically concerning a $12.65 billion nuclear power contract. The UK's independent ethics adviser confirmed no evidence of wrongdoing but noted the reputational risks associated with her family's connections. Emma Reynolds has been appointed to succeed Siddiq in her role.
