Prison officer in inappropriate relationship
Kelsey Calvert, a 28-year-old prison officer, pleaded guilty to having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate at HMP Holme House and for bringing codeine into the prison. During her court appearance at Teesside Crown Court, she sobbed as she admitted to misconduct in public office and the charge of bringing a prohibited article. The case has been adjourned for a pre-sentence report, with sentencing scheduled for October 4, and she was granted unconditional bail until then. Separately, a 49-year-old female prison officer was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office at HMP Dovegate following an investigation by the Regional Organised Crime Unit for the West Midlands. This officer is currently in custody awaiting questioning, as HMP Dovegate manages over 1,000 male inmates and employs a policy of zero tolerance for misconduct. Both cases highlight ongoing issues of misconduct within the prison system, prompting investigations and legal actions.
