Subaru Tests Remote EV Charging Station in St Helena
Subaru UK, in partnership with Easee and the St. Helena Government, has successfully trialed the world’s most remote public electric vehicle (EV) charging station on St. Helena Island, located 1,200 miles off the coast of Africa. The two-month trial involved an all-electric Subaru Solterra, which demonstrated its efficiency by using only 20% of its battery over a day of driving across the island's rugged terrain. This initiative is a crucial part of St. Helena's goal to transition to sustainable energy and achieve zero-emission transport by the end of the decade. Currently, the island has only four electric vehicles, but the government aims to increase this number through the installation of more charging infrastructure. The Easee charging unit will remain on the island as part of a broader plan to develop a network for additional EVs expected to arrive in 2025. Local officials emphasize the importance of this project in reducing reliance on imported diesel fuel and enhancing renewable energy generation on the island.
