The Texas oyster harvesting season will begin with only 10 of the 28 public harvesting areas open due to low market-size oyster abundance, as determined by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. This comes after a series of severe storms have impacted the industry, with hopes that more areas may open as oysters mature. Meanwhile, Mississippi's oyster season is set to open on November 13 for the first time since 2018, limited to 10 harvest days and strict daily sack limits. The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources has also established check stations for harvesters. Recreational harvests will be capped at three sacks per licensed resident over a seven-day period. In the Gulf of Mexico, the recreational greater amberjack season will close starting November 1, following regulatory measures.
