Venezuelan Fugitive Arrested at Buffalo Border

Jose Manuel Salas-Gimenez, a 27-year-old Venezuelan man, was arrested at the Peace Bridge border crossing in Buffalo, NY, after being denied entry into Canada. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) discovered he had active felony warrants from Aurora, Colorado, for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, related to a domestic violence incident in January 2024. The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) confirmed these charges, and Salas-Gimenez was taken into custody and transferred to the Erie County Sheriff's Office, where he awaits extradition to Colorado. This arrest marks the second instance of a Venezuelan wanted in Colorado being apprehended in the area while attempting to enter Canada, following the arrest of Naxer Acevedo Escalona in November for separate charges.
