V&A Museum Opens UK’s First Marie Antoinette Fashion Exhibition

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London is hosting "Marie Antoinette Style," the UK's first exhibition dedicated to the French queen, showcasing her lasting influence as a global tastemaker and fashion icon. Curated by Dr. Sarah Grant, the exhibit features some 250 objects including Marie Antoinette's footwear, jewels, personal belongings, and period fashions, as well as portraits and furniture, some loaned from the Palace of Versailles. The exhibition also highlights her enduring legacy in fashion and film, with costumes from Sofia Coppola's 2006 movie "Marie Antoinette" on display. Dr. Grant describes Marie Antoinette as "the most fashionable queen in history," whose style shaped an era and continues to inspire contemporary designers. The show aims to present a balanced view of her life, blending her controversial reputation with her undeniable cultural impact. The exhibition runs from September until March, putting the queen at the center of her own story.
