Matt Hauser Secures First World Triathlon Title in Wollongong
Australian triathlete Matt Hauser made history by winning the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) Grand Final in Wollongong and securing the overall men's world title with a perfect 4-for-4 race win season. He dominated the final race from the swim through to the run, finishing in 1:42:42 and becoming the first Australian man to win the WTCS series. Spain's David Cantero Del Campo and Italy's Alessio Crociani completed the podium in the men's race, while the overall men's rankings saw Miguel Hidalgo and Vasco Vilaca finishing second and third respectively. In the women's competition, German Lisa Tertsch won the elite finals, succeeding the retired defending champion Cassandre Beaugrand, with Léonie Périault and Beth Potter finishing second and third overall. The event, held in Australia for the first time since 2018, featured strong performances from Australian athletes, including Sophie Linn and Lauren Parker, who contributed to a silver in the Para Mixed Relay. Hauser's victory was celebrated by a supportive home crowd, marking a significant achievement in Australian triathlon history.
