Assefa, Sawe Claim Wins at 2025 London Marathon
Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa won the 2025 London Marathon, setting a new women's-only world record with a time of 2:15:50 and securing her first London victory after placing second last year. Assefa finished ahead of Kenya's Joyciline Jepkosgei and Olympic champion Sifan Hassan. In the men's race, Kenya's Sabastian Sawe claimed his first major marathon win with a time of 2:02:27, narrowly missing the course record and finishing ahead of Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo. Four-time champion Eliud Kipchoge placed sixth in his first marathon since turning 40. Swiss athletes Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner won the wheelchair divisions. The event featured a record 56,000 participants, underscoring its elite field and popularity.
