Fourth Suspect Charged in Pontiac Marijuana Business Owner's Murder

Christopher Matacia, 33, has been charged with felony murder and several other felonies in connection with the murder of Sam Simko, a 66-year-old marijuana businessman, who was killed during a robbery at his Pontiac facility on January 13, 2025. Prosecutor Karen McDonald described the murder as a 'well-coordinated and cold-blooded robbery' and emphasized the commitment to bring all involved to justice. Matacia is the fourth suspect charged; three others—William Creasy, Scott Brown, and Deonte Prophett—were previously charged with similar crimes. The suspects allegedly executed Simko, stealing approximately 50 pounds of marijuana before fleeing to Cincinnati. Authorities are continuing their investigation, and further arrests may be made. The case has raised concerns about security risks in Michigan's expanding cannabis industry.
