Israel reinstates blockade on northern Gaza, casualties rise

Israeli forces reinstated a blockade in northern Gaza City on Thursday, following the resumption of military operations in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that airstrikes and ground operations have resulted in 85 Palestinian deaths over a 24-hour period, with most casualties occurring in Beit Lahiya. The blockade, which Israel had maintained prior to a January ceasefire, aims to restrict Hamas movements, especially along the Salah ad-Din highway. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that military actions will continue until all hostages held by Hamas are returned. In response to these developments, Hamas launched rockets into Israel, resulting in no casualties. The overall situation remains tense, with the death toll in Gaza since the recent escalation reportedly rising to 592, according to local health authorities.
