Laapataa Ladies Chosen as India's Oscar Entry

Kiran Rao's film 'Laapataa Ladies' has been officially selected as India's entry for the 2025 Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category. Aamir Khan, who produced the film and is Rao's ex-husband, expressed his pride and gratitude towards the Film Federation of India for the selection. The film, which tells the story of two brides accidentally swapped during a train journey, is set to release theatrically in Japan this year. Rao acknowledged the challenges of the Oscar campaign and plans to seek guidance from Khan and filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, who previously campaigned for 'Lagaan'. The film was chosen from a competitive list of 29 contenders, including major titles like 'Animal' and 'Aattam'. Both Rao and Khan expressed their hope that 'Laapataa Ladies' will resonate with Academy members.
