Louisiana Restores Camp Beauregard Name To National Guard Center

The Louisiana National Guard Training Center in Pineville has been renamed Camp Beauregard, reverting from its 2023 name change that removed Confederate associations. The base now honors Capt. Jacques Toutant Beauregard, a Louisiana Militia veteran who fought in the 1815 Battle of New Orleans and father of Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry emphasized honoring historical courage rather than erasing the past, aligning with President Donald Trump's administration's policy of restoring military installations' original names but honoring non-Confederate veterans. Lieutenant Colonel Noel Collins highlighted that Jacques Beauregard embodies the values of the Louisiana National Guard and the state's historical legacy. The renaming follows a broader national debate over Confederate symbols, with the state and federal governments taking different approaches to military base names.
