TAP Air Portugal Carrying 16.1 Million Passengers in 2024, Highlights Transatlantic Growth

TAP Air Portugal reported a successful year in 2024, carrying 16.1 million passengers, a growth of 1.6% from 2023. Significant increases were noted on North American routes, with 1.59 million passengers, marking an 8.9% rise, and on Brazil-Europe routes, which surpassed two million passengers for the first time, reflecting a 7.1% increase. Despite a slight decline of 0.1% in African routes, the airline's overall load factor rose to 82.3%, indicating improved operational efficiency. Domestic routes within Portugal also saw growth, with 983,000 passengers traveling between Madeira and the mainland, a 3.3% increase. The airline's European routes, excluding Portugal, contributed positively with 8.8 million passengers, up 0.9%. As TAP prepares for privatization, these results underscore its potential appeal to prospective buyers like Air France-KLM and British Airways-owner IAG.
