Mattahunt Elementary Wins $100,000 School Prize

Mattahunt Elementary School in Mattapan has been awarded the 19th annual 'School on the Move' prize by EdVestors, recognizing its transformation from one of the lowest-performing schools in Massachusetts to a thriving educational institution. The school received a $100,000 prize, which includes $80,000 in cash and $20,000 for best practices research, while finalists Boston Adult Technical Academy and Josiah Quincy Elementary each received $20,000. Principal Walter Henderson highlighted the school's nine-year journey of improvement, emphasizing their unique Haitian Creole dual-language program that fosters inclusivity and cultural connection among students.
