Texas Man Arrested in Lafayette Fentanyl Bust

Huey K. Jones, a 50-year-old man from Katy, Texas, was arrested in Lafayette, Louisiana, after police seized 960 grams (approximately 2.12 pounds) of fentanyl during a drug bust on October 2. The operation, conducted in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Louisiana State Police, took place in the 100 block of Gentilly Road, where Jones reportedly tried to flee. The seized fentanyl has an estimated street value of $384,000, leading to charges of possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II narcotic. Jones is currently held in the Lafayette Parish Jail on a $2.5 million bond. Meanwhile, in California, a separate incident involved the California Highway Patrol seizing around 120,000 fentanyl-laced pills, valued at $1.2 million, during a traffic stop, resulting in the arrest of two suspects. These incidents highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat the trafficking of fentanyl and protect communities from its dangers.
