A prestigious auction of classic TV show costumes from the collection of the late Stewart Berkowitz netted nearly $1 million from iconic pieces of the 1960s Batman series, including Adam West's Batman and Burt Ward's Robin costumes which alone sold for $575,000. Other notable sales included Cesar Romero's Joker costume for $212,000, Yvonne Craig's Batgirl costume for $87,500, Julie Newmar's Catwoman costume for $68,750, and Burgess Meredith's Penguin costume for $46,250. Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman costume from the 1970s also fetched a significant $225,000, reflecting the enduring popularity of these television legends. Additional memorabilia from popular series like Happy Days, Star Trek, I Dream of Jeannie, The Munsters, and Get Smart drew considerable attention, with items such as Henry Winkler's leather jackets and William Shatner's Captain Kirk outfits selling for tens of thousands of dollars. Heritage Auctions' executive vice president, Joe Maddalena, described the event as a "love letter to the golden age of television," emphasizing the passionate collector interest and the lasting cultural impact of these classic TV shows. This sale highlights not only the value of television memorabilia but also the nostalgic and inspirational significance these characters and their costumes hold for generations of fans worldwide.
