Exmouth Beach in Devon has been subject to multiple swimming warnings due to sewage pollution, with the latest advisory issued on September 2 following a discharge by South West Water (SWW). This follows a similar incident just days prior, prompting the Environment Agency (EA) to advise against bathing at Exmouth and several nearby beaches, including Budleigh Salterton and Dawlish. SWW reported that the pollution incidents are linked to operational overflows at their temporary sewage system, with a spokesman acknowledging a 'small spill' caused by human error. The EA had previously lifted a warning on August 31 after a separate incident but reissued it as conditions worsened. Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) has also flagged the water quality at Exmouth as concerning, urging caution among swimmers. Meanwhile, Wolfe’s Pond Beach in Staten Island is under a health advisory due to high bacteria levels, although it remains open for swimming under advisories.
