Mother, Five Children Shot in Nashville Minivan

A mother and her five children, visiting Nashville from Iowa, were shot in their minivan late Saturday night by the mother's 26-year-old boyfriend, Jovien Smith, following an argument while driving to visit family. Smith allegedly attempted to cause a crash by grabbing the steering wheel before the mother safely stopped the vehicle, after which he shot her multiple times and then opened fire on the children. A 4-year-old girl died from her injuries, while two other children, ages seven and one, remain in critical condition. Smith was taken into custody at the scene and faces charges including criminal homicide and attempted criminal homicide. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine additional details and the motive. No further victim names have been released.
