Tyrann Mathieu Announces NFL Retirement on Instagram
Tyrann Mathieu, the NFL safety known as the 'Honey Badger,' has announced his retirement at age 33 after a 12-season career, making the announcement on Instagram just before the New Orleans Saints' 2025 training camp. Mathieu, a New Orleans native and former LSU standout, played for the Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs (winning Super Bowl LIV), and most recently the Saints. His retirement surprised many in the Saints organization but was met with tributes from teammates, coaches, and NFL stars such as Patrick Mahomes. Mathieu was celebrated for his leadership, charitable work, and resilience, as well as his status as a Heisman finalist and community icon during his LSU days. Over his career, he recorded 834 tackles, 36 interceptions, three Pro Bowl selections, and three All-Pro honors. He departs as one of Louisiana's most beloved players and an influential figure on and off the field.
