Block Pilots Bitcoin Payments at Bitcoin 2025

Block Inc., led by Jack Dorsey, is piloting Bitcoin payments on Square point-of-sale terminals at the BTC Inc. pop-up store during the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas. The system uses the Lightning Network to enable near-instant, low-cost transactions, with customers scanning a QR code and Square managing real-time exchange rates and confirmations. The pilot serves as a precursor to a broader rollout, with Block planning to offer the feature to all eligible Square sellers starting in the second half of 2025, reaching full availability in 2026 pending regulatory approval. This initiative complements Block's existing Bitcoin-related products and aims to make Bitcoin more accessible for everyday transactions. Block is currently the tenth-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, highlighting its commitment to cryptocurrency integration. According to Block's Bitcoin Product Lead, the feature is designed to provide a decentralized, fair, and fast money system for everyone.
