Glenn Maxwell Out; PBKS Eyes Replacement Options
Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of IPL 2025 for Punjab Kings after fracturing his finger during training before a rained-out match against Kolkata Knight Riders. The injury ends a disappointing season for Maxwell, who scored just 48 runs in seven games, and was confirmed by captain Shreyas Iyer and teammate Marcus Stoinis. Head coach Ricky Ponting cited the concurrent Pakistan Super League as a challenge in finding international replacements. Punjab Kings are considering players such as Azmatullah Omarzai, Aaron Hardie, and Xavier Bartlett, as well as younger Indian talents. Despite Maxwell's absence, the team recently defeated Chennai Super Kings by four wickets and moved to second in the standings. A decision on Maxwell's replacement is expected before Punjab Kings' 12th match.
