Shinsegae Opens The Heritage Landmark in Seoul

Shinsegae Department Store has opened The Heritage, a transformative cultural and retail destination in Seoul's Myeong-dong district, housed in a meticulously restored 90-year-old building that was formerly the head office of Korea’s First Bank. The decade-long restoration preserved key architectural features while incorporating modern design elements, such as a glass curtain wall inspired by New York's Morgan Library. The five-story complex features luxury boutiques, including a Chanel store designed by Peter Marino, and a museum showcasing archival photographs and artifacts from Myeong-dong's past. The Heritage aims to attract both local shoppers and tourists, enhancing foot traffic to Shinsegae's nearby duty-free operations. The building has been designated as Seoul's 71st tangible cultural property, reflecting its historical significance and architectural heritage.
