Avalanche Defeat Jets 5-2 in New Year's Clash
The Colorado Avalanche defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-2, halting the Jets' four-game winning streak. Casey Mittelstadt ended his 19-game scoring drought with a tiebreaking goal in the third period, helping Colorado secure its fifth consecutive win. Artturi Lehkonen, Devon Toews, Mikko Rantanen, and Ross Colton also scored for the Avalanche, with Mackenzie Blackwood making 21 saves. Winnipeg's Eric Comrie stopped 33 shots, but it wasn't enough to counter the Avalanche's offensive onslaught. Rasmus Kupari and Gabriel Vilardi scored for the Jets, who were outshot 25-17 in the first two periods. Jets' defenseman Dylan DeMelo suffered a late-game injury after being hit by a shot.
