DoorDash Launches First Drone Delivery Service in Charlotte

DoorDash has launched drone delivery service in the Charlotte area through a partnership with Wing, a leading drone delivery company, marking the first such service in North Carolina. Eligible customers within approximately four miles of The Arboretum Shopping Center can order from select local and national restaurants including Panera Bread, Matcha Cafe Maiko, and Joa Korean Food, with deliveries arriving in as little as 15 minutes via drone. This expansion builds on the existing Wing and DoorDash partnership, which began in 2022 and has already brought drone deliveries to other U.S. cities, with plans to expand further later this year. Harrison Shih, Head of Product at DoorDash Labs, emphasized that the launch is about more than technology; it is about enhancing the delivery experience by providing faster, sustainable, and innovative local logistics. The service allows customers to track their drone deliveries live, with drones lowering orders via tether before returning to their charging hubs. The initiative highlights DoorDash's ongoing commitment to advancing autonomous delivery as part of the future of local commerce.
