Gunman Kills Four, Including NYPD Officer, in Manhattan

Shane Tamura, 27, of Las Vegas, killed four people—including off-duty NYPD officer Didarul Islam and three civilians—in a mass shooting at 345 Park Avenue, a prominent Manhattan office tower. Tamura, armed with an AR-style rifle and wearing a bulletproof vest, shot Officer Islam in the lobby before shooting others and killing another person on the 33rd floor, where he later died by suicide. At least one person remains in critical condition and others were injured while fleeing. Officer Islam, a Bangladeshi immigrant, leaves behind his pregnant wife and two young sons. Authorities report Tamura had a documented mental health history, acted alone after driving from Nevada, and that his motive is still under investigation. The building has reopened with heightened security as the investigation continues.
