Former Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, following her disqualification from the Paris Olympics 2024, has joined the Congress party and filed her nomination for the Haryana Assembly elections, contesting from the Julana constituency in Jind. Her nomination affidavit reveals substantial assets totaling approximately ₹3 crore, including three cars (a Volvo XC 60, Hyundai Creta, and Toyota Innova), and a plot in Sonipat valued at ₹2 crore. Vinesh reported an annual income of ₹13.85 lakh and has ₹1.95 lakh in cash on hand, while also repaying a loan related to one of her vehicles. Her decision to enter politics is driven by her dissatisfaction with the lack of support from the Indian Olympic Association during her Olympic journey. Vinesh’s uncle, Mahavir Singh Phogat, supports her political ambitions and is now training his daughter Sangeeta for the 2028 Olympics, as Vinesh aims to focus on her new career. This marks a significant shift for Vinesh, who was a prominent athlete and Commonwealth Games gold medalist.
