The body of 15-year-old Aayan Randhawa, who went missing while swimming with a friend at Huntington Beach on July 28, has been recovered two miles from where he was last seen. The Huntington Beach Marine Safety Division found the body floating near lifeguard tower 3 on August 5, after a search that involved multiple agencies, including the Coast Guard and local police, covering over 105 square miles for nearly 20 hours. Randhawa had been swimming near lifeguard tower 11 when strong rip currents and waves of 3 to 5 feet were reported. The search was suspended on July 30, but local lifeguards continued efforts until the body was discovered. Capt. Stacey Crecy of the Coast Guard expressed condolences to Randhawa's family, emphasizing the difficulty of suspending searches. A candlelight vigil was held in his memory, where his mother described him as a 'shining star' in their family.
