ICC Plans Cricket Inclusion in Youth Olympics 2030

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is exploring the possibility of including cricket in the Youth Olympics scheduled for 2030, following the Indian government's announcement to bid for hosting the event in Mumbai. Vivek Gopalan proposed the idea to ICC's General Manager of Development, William Glenwright, who expressed support for the initiative. In the proposal, Gopalan emphasized cricket's importance, especially given Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public endorsement of India's bid for both the 2030 Youth Olympic Games and the 2036 Olympics. The email exchange included key stakeholders within the ICC, highlighting cricket's potential for grassroots development worldwide. Gopalan argued for cricket's inclusion by pointing out that many major sports, including Rugby Sevens, are already part of the Youth Olympics. The ICC's willingness to collaborate with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) marks a significant step for cricket's global expansion.
