Chebet, Kipyegon Set Records at Prefontaine Classic
At the 50th Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, Kenyan runners Beatrice Chebet and Faith Kipyegon both set new world records in dramatic fashion. Chebet became the first woman to complete the 5000m in under 14 minutes, finishing in 13:58.06 and surpassing Gudaf Tsegay and Agnes Jebet Ngetich in the final stretch. Kipyegon broke her own 1500m world record for the third year in a row, clocking 3:48.68 and defeating Jessica Hull and Diribe Welteji. The meet also saw Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone win the 400m and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden upset the field in the women's 100m. These results highlight Kenya's dominance in women's distance running ahead of the World Championships. The Eugene Diamond League remains a prominent venue for record-breaking performances in track and field.
