Super Typhoon Ragasa Triggers Tens of Thousands Evacuations Across Philippines, Taiwan, China
Super Typhoon Ragasa, with winds exceeding 215 kph, has struck northern Philippines causing widespread evacuations, power outages, and disruption of flights and maritime transport, particularly in the provinces of Cagayan, Apayao, and northern Luzon. The storm is moving westward towards Taiwan, Hong Kong, and southern China, triggering mass evacuations in coastal and low-lying areas, including the relocation of 400,000 people in Shenzhen. Authorities across the region have suspended schools, work, and public transport while bracing for life-threatening storm surges and heavy rains that may cause flooding and landslides. Hong Kong and Taiwan have canceled numerous flights and ferry services in preparation for the typhoon, which is expected to remain in the South China Sea until midweek. Local government units in Ilocos Norte and surrounding areas in the Philippines are enforcing mandatory evacuations for high-risk communities, with disaster officials emphasizing the readiness of evacuation centers to support affected residents. Despite power losses and significant disruptions, no casualties have been reported so far as the typhoon continues to pose a significant threat to East Asia.
