Josh Gad is developing a sequel to Mel Brooks' classic parody 'Spaceballs,' which originally debuted in 1987. During a pitch meeting, Gad had to explain the developments in the 'Star Wars' franchise to Brooks, who admitted he wasn't familiar with the newer films. Gad shared that he presented his ideas for about 40 minutes, likening the experience to a combat scenario due to the pressure of impressing Brooks. At the end of the pitch, Brooks complimented Gad, saying he seemed to have 'his finger on the pulse' of the franchise, which Gad deemed a significant endorsement. The sequel will be produced for Amazon MGM Studios, with Gad starring and co-writing alongside Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, while Brooks is also set to produce.
