KC Current Owners Acquire Danish Club HB Køge Women

Angie and Chris Long, primary owners of the NWSL's Kansas City Current, have expanded their global soccer presence by acquiring HB Køge Women, a leading Danish women's football club in the top-tier Kvindeliga. The acquisition involved separating HB Køge's women's team from the men's side, allowing the Longs' investment firm Ballard Capital to take full ownership of the women's club. HB Køge, based near Copenhagen, has won three consecutive Danish league titles from 2021 to 2023 and competed in the UEFA Women’s Champions League during those years. The Longs plan to leverage their experience with the Kansas City Current to elevate HB Køge’s competitive standing and community engagement, including significant investments in a youth academy aimed at making it the premier women’s football academy in Scandinavia. This purchase marks a key step in the Longs' broader ambition to build a multi-club women's soccer network globally, joining other U.S. owners like Michele Kang in expanding their portfolios. While financial terms were not disclosed, the Longs emphasized their commitment to maintaining HB Køge’s identity and growing its franchise value through both sporting and business development.
