Marvel's Thunderbolts Tops Box Office with $33M Second Weekend, Nears $300M Global
Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts maintained its No. 1 position at the North American box office in its second weekend, grossing approximately $33 million domestically and $34 million internationally, bringing its global total to over $272 million. Despite this strong hold, its 55% decline from opening weekend is modest relative to other recent Marvel films, and it is unlikely to reach $200 million domestically. Warner Bros.' Sinners continued its successful run with $21 million domestically in its fourth weekend and a global total surpassing $283 million, while A Minecraft Movie added $7.9 million domestically, reaching over $909 million worldwide. Thunderbolts, directed by Jake Schreier and featuring an ensemble cast led by Florence Pugh, cost $180 million to produce and has been praised by Disney CEO Bob Iger for its offbeat storyline, marking a departure from typical superhero fare. Other notable releases include The Accountant 2 and the indie horror Clown in a Cornfield, the latter achieving an impressive $3.6 million opening for a micro-budget film. Overall, Thunderbolts' performance reflects a solid but somewhat restrained success in the competitive 2025 box office landscape.
