Santa Monica Police Arrest Over 40 Looters

The Santa Monica Police Department has arrested over 40 individuals in evacuation zones since January 7 due to various violations, including burglary and curfew breaches, as the city responds to wildfires. Police Chief Ramon Batista praised the officers for their efforts to maintain safety and secure the evacuation areas, emphasizing that none of those arrested were Santa Monica residents. Ten individuals were specifically charged with burglary, with several others found in possession of burglary tools and concealed firearms. The department reported a significant increase in arrest activity compared to normal levels in these neighborhoods. Law enforcement continues to patrol the evacuation zones to deter criminal activity, with support from the California National Guard.
