The Karnataka government has ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe alleged irregularities amounting to ₹7,223.64 crore in COVID-19 management during the previous BJP administration. This decision follows the interim report from the John Michael D’Cunha Inquiry Commission, which highlighted significant mismanagement and unauthorized purchases of medical supplies. The Cabinet also formed a sub-committee to oversee the investigation and to address administrative malpractices without criminal intent, authorized by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Key recommendations from the commission include recovering ₹500 crore from implicated companies, which will also face blacklisting. The investigation has been met with political contention, as the BJP criticized the move as politically motivated. Additional concerns include missing vaccines and improper procurement practices noted during the cabinet meeting.
