Five PSNI Officers Injured in West Belfast Car Ramming Incident

In an early morning incident in West Belfast, a 50-year-old man was arrested after leading police on a dangerous pursuit in a black Audi A4, which involved ramming two police vehicles and resulted in four officers sustaining minor injuries. The chase began when the vehicle failed to stop for police, weaving onto the wrong side of the road and driving recklessly. After deploying tactical measures to halt the vehicle, the suspect reversed into one police car while attempting to flee, injuring an officer exiting the vehicle. Chief Inspector Pete Cunningham described the incident as 'completely reckless and dangerous,' highlighting the resilience of the officers who returned to duty despite their injuries. Both damaged police vehicles will be off the road for repairs, impacting local community policing efforts. The arrested man faces charges including driving when unfit and dangerous driving.
