John Oliver Rebrands Erie SeaWolves as Moon Mammoths

The Erie SeaWolves, the Detroit Tigers' Double-A affiliate, are undergoing a unique rebranding initiated by comedian John Oliver and his HBO show "Last Week Tonight." After an open call to minor league teams, the SeaWolves were selected to receive a new identity without the ability to influence the final decision. Embracing local history, the team will adopt the name Erie Moon Mammoths, inspired by the discovery of woolly mammoth remains by George Moon in Lake Pleasant in 1991. The rebranding includes a new logo featuring a purple mammoth in a space helmet and a new mascot named "Fuzz E. Mammoth." The Moon Mammoths will debut their new identity on July 19, with John Oliver expected to attend the game, which will feature special giveaways and fireworks. The rebrand is a playful nod to Erie's quirks and history, aiming to bring fresh attention and fun to the team and community.
