Kansas Priest Fr. Arul Carasala Fatally Shot

Indian-origin Catholic priest Father Arul Carasala was fatally shot at his parish rectory in Seneca, Kansas. Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann announced the tragic news, describing Carasala as a beloved leader and devoted pastor who served the Archdiocese for over 20 years. The shooting occurred on April 3, and authorities have arrested Gary L. Hermesch, 66, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, on charges of first-degree murder. Carasala, originally from Andhra Pradesh, India, became a U.S. citizen in 2011 and was the pastor at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church since 2011. The Archdiocese assured the community there is no ongoing threat and urged for prayers for both the victim's family and the perpetrator. A rosary and mass were held in his honor by the Knights of Columbus and the local community.
