Motorcyclist Early 20s Dies Colliding Semi Jacksonville Westside

A man in his early 20s died Monday night after his sport bike collided with a semi tractor-trailer on Normandy Boulevard near Verna Boulevard around 8:21 p.m. according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Police said the motorcyclist was traveling westbound while the semi was eastbound; reports indicate the semi was in the center lane and the motorcycle in the inside lane, and one account notes the truck was turning into a business when the crash occurred. Jacksonville Fire Rescue transported the rider to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, and the semi driver remained at the scene cooperating with investigators. JSO said it is unclear whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, and the roadway was shut down for about an hour during the investigation. The crash is the 130th traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the 33rd involving a motorcyclist.
