Allen Greene Named Pitt Athletic Director

The University of Pittsburgh has appointed Allen Greene as the new athletic director, effective November 1, replacing Heather Lyke, who was fired in September. Greene, who previously held positions as the senior deputy director at the University of Tennessee and athletic director at Auburn and Buffalo, is recognized for his expertise in football, finances, fundraising, and NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness). His appointment is part of Pitt's strategy to boost revenue and navigate the evolving landscape of college athletics. Chancellor Joan Gabel praised Greene as a leader who embodies 'the Pitt way' and has the capability to elevate the athletic program in both competition and academics. Greene takes over amidst a successful sports season for Pitt, with the football team ranked 20th and off to its best start since 1982, and the women's volleyball and men's soccer teams also ranked highly. Additionally, Greene will oversee the ongoing 'Victory Heights' capital project, which faces funding challenges.
