Rio Tinto Report Shows Rise in Workplace Bullying

A recent report on workplace culture at Rio Tinto has revealed alarming increases in bullying and sexual assault allegations, particularly against women. Reports of bullying rose to 39% among surveyed employees, up from 31% in 2021, with female employees experiencing the highest rates. The report documented eight allegations of rape or attempted rape in the past year, an increase from five in 2021. Despite these troubling findings, about half of the respondents noted improvements in workplace culture, with some feeling the situation regarding bullying and harassment had gotten better. The report indicates that the rise in bullying may be partly retaliatory against efforts to promote gender diversity and inclusion. Rio Tinto's leadership acknowledges the ongoing challenges and emphasizes their commitment to implementing recommendations from previous reports to address these issues.
