Former BBC Weatherman Jay Wynne Dies Aged 56 After Long Illness
Jay Wynne, a beloved BBC Weather presenter known for his clear and engaging forecasts on BBC News at Ten, has died at the age of 56 after a long-term illness. His brother Matthew paid tribute, highlighting Jay's gentle clarity, wisdom, generosity, and dry sense of humor, as well as his passions for skiing, golfing, music, and travel. Wynne's career was inspired by his studies in Environmental Geography at the University of Aberdeen, followed by a master's degree in Applied Meteorology from the University of Reading. Before broadcasting, he worked as a technician on a North Sea oil rig, taught English in Japan, and conducted environmental research in Southeast Asia. He also completed rigorous Met Office training, including a six-month secondment at RAF Northolt, and was deeply dedicated to his craft, often verifying his forecasts in person. Wynne's diverse experiences and commitment made him a respected figure in meteorology and broadcasting.
