Pakistan Defence Minister Rules Out Nuclear Option Amid India Tensions
Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following a series of cross-border strikes and drone attacks, Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that the nuclear option is currently not under consideration, although he warned that any further escalation could lead to wider destruction beyond the region. Asif emphasized that no meeting of Pakistan's National Command Authority, responsible for nuclear decisions, has been called, despite earlier reports suggesting otherwise. The conflict intensified after India conducted precision strikes on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in retaliation for a militant attack linked to cross-border elements. Pakistan responded with drone attacks targeting multiple locations in India, which Indian defense systems intercepted successfully. Pakistan also claimed that several of its air bases were targeted by Indian missiles and drones, though India has not confirmed these claims. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts include calls from US officials urging both nations to de-escalate and resume direct communication to avoid miscalculations.
