Massachusetts Man Found Dead Off Bremen Coast

Authorities are investigating the death of 74-year-old Mark Metzger from Waltham, Massachusetts, whose body was found off the coast of Bremen, Maine, near Long Island Ledges. Metzger was reported missing by friends around 11:40 a.m. Sunday after they could not locate him on his 19-foot sailboat anchored on the western side of Bremen Long Island. A multi-agency search involving the Maine Marine Patrol, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Maine Forest Service, and U.S. Coast Guard was launched, and his body was found around 1:30 p.m. by good Samaritans. The Coast Guard transported Metzger's body to shore, and it was handed over to a local funeral home for transfer to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy. The exact circumstances of Metzger's death remain unclear as the investigation continues.
