Bates Urges Post Office Victims to Sue Government Over Delays

Sir Alan Bates has called on victims of the Post Office Horizon scandal to pursue legal action against the government due to significant delays in compensation. He warned that it could take until November 2027 for all claims to be resolved, urging that a judicial review may be the quickest route to fairness. More than 900 subpostmasters were wrongfully prosecuted after faulty accounting software created false financial shortfalls, leading many to suffer serious personal and financial consequences. Bates criticized the group litigation order (GLO) scheme as 'a mess,' noting that advice to expedite the process has been ignored by the Department for Business and Trade (DBT). In response, the government contended that it is settling claims at an unprecedented rate.
