Former WMU Exchange Student Charged 2010 Sexual Assault

Al Allan De Los Santos Mueses, a former Western Michigan University exchange student from the Dominican Republic, has been charged with four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct for an assault that occurred in March 2010. The alleged victim, a 20-year-old woman at the time, reported the incident to university police and underwent a forensic exam, but no charges were filed initially. Mueses was arrested in Miami on July 11, 2025, and extradited to Michigan where he was arraigned and released on a $250,000 bond. The case was reopened and is being prosecuted by the Kalamazoo Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI), which investigates cold cases related to untested sexual assault kits. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel praised SAKI's efforts in bringing justice to survivors of historical sexual assaults and encouraged anyone with information to contact authorities. Mueses is scheduled to appear in court for a probable cause conference on August 7, 2025.
