Texas Tech University System Names Sen. Brandon Creighton Chancellor

Texas State Senator Brandon Creighton has been unanimously named the sole finalist for chancellor of the Texas Tech University System, following a special meeting of the Board of Regents. Creighton, a Republican from Conroe with nearly 20 years of legislative experience, has been influential in shaping higher education policy in Texas, including legislation banning diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in public universities and expanding the governor's authority over university boards. He will replace outgoing Chancellor Dr. Tedd L. Mitchell, who is retiring after serving since 2018, with a formal swearing-in pending a state-mandated 21-day waiting period. Creighton expressed his honor in being selected and his commitment to advancing the system's mission, which includes Texas Tech University in Lubbock and several other academic institutions. Board of Regents Chairman Cody Campbell praised Creighton's experience and cultural fit for the Texas Tech System, emphasizing confidence in his leadership to continue growth and success. Creighton will need to resign his Senate seat before assuming the chancellorship and will work closely with Mitchell during the transition.
