India Funds 83% Green Energy Switch, Seeks International Finance
Bahrain is advancing environmental sustainability under the guidance of King Hamad and Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, emphasizing green technologies, eco-friendly practices, and community engagement in legislative and developmental efforts. In India, Madhav Pai, CEO of WRI India, highlighted that about 83% of the green energy transition is currently funded domestically, but unlocking international finance is crucial to meet climate goals, especially for sectors like green steel, cement, aviation, and maritime. WRI India has signed memoranda of understanding with various organizations to promote clean energy transitions and address emissions, including those from agriculture, while advocating for enhanced carbon sinks. Taiwan's Cathay United Bank (CUB) is spearheading green and sustainable finance for SMEs and large enterprises by offering tailored financial products, partnerships for carbon inventory verification, and incentives to encourage greener practices. CUB's initiatives include launching Taiwan's first SME Sustainable Finance Partner Project and pioneering sustainability-linked payroll solutions, alongside promoting regional low-carbon transitions through green loans and financing in markets such as Singapore and Vietnam. These developments reflect a global push toward sustainable finance and environmental protection through innovative funding mechanisms and policy leadership.
