Pulpex secures £62m for fibre bottle factory near Glasgow
Pulpex has secured a £62 million investment to establish its first commercial-scale manufacturing facility near Glasgow, capable of producing 50 million fibre-based bottles annually. The funding includes £43.5 million from the National Wealth Fund (NWF) and £10 million from the Scottish National Investment Bank, marking the NWF's inaugural investment in Scotland. Pulpex's innovative bottles, made from sustainably sourced wood pulp, are designed to be recyclable like paper and offer a biodegradable alternative to traditional plastic packaging. This project is expected to create 35 jobs and significantly contribute to the growth of the sustainable packaging sector. Chancellor Rachel Reeves highlighted the NWF's broader mandate to foster industrial transformation and its positive impact on job creation, having already supported 8,600 jobs in the past six months. Scottish Secretary Ian Murray expressed optimism about the investment, emphasizing its role in boosting economic growth and opportunities in Scotland.
